A couple of weeks ago, the BAFTAs enraged the majority of the film world with the release of their narrow-minded nominations.
There’s not a single person of colour in the acting categories, and it’s the seventh year in a row where women have been shut out for a directing nod. Thank heavens Parasite is being acknowledged, because we see that winning at least one award at the BAFTAs this year… 28/1/2020 2019: The year of A24.By Adam Ray Palmer
January for Cineroom is like Christmas… One-off feature gifts left, right and centre. This annual article is in the ‘lookback’ category, as we celebrate the most standout performer of the previous year. For instance, 2015 was “the box office” (for making s*** loads of money) and 2017 was Disney (they smashed it – like most years). 2019 is the year of A24… Reporting live (well, not quite) to you from Cineroom HQ, we have the latest reaction to the big news stories over the past 30 days.
As always, we will present you with the facts, and then our take on them. We may have guest reporters every now and then – so look out for opportunities! This just in… here’s news story number one… 19/1/2020 A box office bet: 2020.This is Cineroom’s annual feature that doesn’t always go so well, but for 2020, we’re feeling positive that we can hit a personal best.
Basically, we choose five films that are being released this year that we think will hit a $billion or more. A previous best being three out of five in 2017. We’ve got an inkling though; it’s going to be five out of five in 2020… Our title doesn’t lie. In this feature each month, we round up the five best trailers from the past 30 days, so you don’t have to.
From the upcoming blockbusters, the tense thrillers and the lovey-dovey rom-coms; we have researched them all. Buckle up, clear your diary… this is the best 10 minutes of your month… 13/1/2020 Cineroom's top films of 2019.By Adam Ray Palmer
It's a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new year for us… and we’re feeling good. Well, the makers of the below movies will certainly feel good if they care about Cineroom’s validation! It’s 2020, and that means one thing… we can now judge 2019! We don’t like to be mean on Cineroom, so this is just a feelgood article highlighting some of 2019’s best films. If you agree, great. If you don’t, let us know your favourites… 13/1/2020 92nd Academy Awards: A preview.Awards season is coming thick and fast now. We have already had the Golden Globes; the BAFTAs have released frustrating nominations last week and today was the turn of the Oscars.
The Academy Awards famously deliver a mixed bag when it comes to nominations over the last decade (at least) and 2020 was, on the whole, an improvement to an extent. Let’s get into it… With streaming services galore and DVDs becoming a thing of the past, it’s important to make the right decision when adding to your collection.
Each month, we look at what movies deserve a space on your home-cinema shrine… (commonly known as a DVD shelf). Here’s five films that we think have potential to be bought in a shop near you… 10/1/2020 STN January 2020 write up.By Adam Ray Palmer
It’s the end of another decade people, and that’s a pretty big deal when it comes to one difficult decision… what’s been your film of the last 10 years? Well, in a few paragraphs time, I’ll give you mine – tell me yours on Cineroom’s Facebook or Twitter if you wish! But first, here’s a few films to catch over the December and January months. Our blog title is actually a double entendre. Firstly, the nominations are certainly a year to forget for us film fans, as diversity was clearly not on the agenda.
Secondly, whilst on diversity, that has clearly been forgotten this year by BAFTA too. There’s lots that could be said, but the argument won’t be won or lost in a blog. But we will say a few points, alongside publishing the big hitters on the nomination list… |
