Venezia75 is spoiling us with two western epics this year. First, we had Joel and Ethan Coen’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and now we have Jacques Audiard’s The Sisters Brothers. I’ve been a fan of Audiard’s work for a few years, largely A Prophet and Dheepan, so how would his first English-language film fair? By Adam Ray Palmer
Following on from his critically acclaimed Far From Men, David Oelhoffen returns four years later with his 2018 drama, Frères Ennemis (Close Enemies). This Belgian-French picture is also written by Oelhoffen and stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Reda Kateb and Sabrina Ouazani. By Adam Ray Palmer
And here it is, my most anticipated film of Venezia75 from Luca Guadagnino titled Suspiria, a remake of sorts from the 1977 production. The marketing and build up over the past few months for this movie has been nail-bitingly good, and today my nails disappeared. By Adam Ray Palmer
The Coen brothers are back with a bang, well six bangs actually. The siblings bring to the Venice Film Festival a western anthology movie. Whilst the title eludes to a series of films revolving around one man ‘Buster Scruggs’, you actually get six short features with their own little tales. By Adam Ray Palmer
Well, here we are with the third reboot of A Star is Born, and this time it’s Bradley Cooper who fancied the challenge of delivering it. Talks started back in 2011 for this version, and finally in 2016 it was green lit with Lady Gaga signing on alongside Cooper. By Adam Ray Palmer
This movie was one of my picks for the festival beforehand, largely down to two talents. One being the director Yorgos Lanthimos and the other being a favourite actress of mine, Emma Stone. Joining Stone on the bill is; Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult, Olivia Colman, Joe Alwyn and Mark Gatiss. By Adam Ray Palmer
Relatively new to the film world with his fifth feature, writer/director Rick Alverson brings the Venice Film Festival his latest flick The Mountain. The Mountain stars now two-time Alverson collaborator Tye Sheridan and movie veteran Jeff Goldblum as the leading duo. 29/8/2018 Venezia75: First Man film review.By Adam Ray Palmer
The 75th Venice Film Festival is open for business, and this year, Damien Chazelle gets the opening slot with his movie First Man. Following his instant classic La La Land in 2016, Chazelle is back with his Neil Armstrong biopic with his trusted pal Ryan Gosling as his leading man. By Adam Ray Palmer
Yes, I know I am late to the game. And yes, I know there has been tons of Fallen Kingdom reviews already; but you can’t rush an opinion, can you? But now I am ready to air my view, I just hope there is enough of you still wanting to hear it! Let’s quit the jibber jabber and get down to business… 15/4/2018 Game Night film review.By Adam Ray Palmer
This film has been out and about in theatres for a while now, and still in selected outlets if you’re trying to source it. I’ll be honest though, I was sceptical about this picture. Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein; Game Night stars Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, Jesse Plemons and Sharon Horgan. |
