Today’s review is a little bit retro. I’ve chosen Martin Scorsese’s 2006 cop thriller The Departed. It’s hard to believe that this film is now a decade old. This picture is littered with Hollywood A-listers including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen and Ray Winstone just to name a few. Following on from Gangs of New York and The Aviator, this film continued the blossoming friendship between Marty and Leo. Today’s review is a documentary film about a gifted singer-songwriter that tragically died in 2011. Asif Kapadia, along with contributors including her colleagues, friends and family, made a documentary about Amy Winehouse late last year. The film received critical acclaim including an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Bafta for being the best documentary from the past 12 months. Today’s review is the third instalment in the Divergent Series. The franchise began in 2014 with Divergent, swiftly followed by Insurgent last year; and now we have 2016s Allegiant. Allegiant marks the start of the blockbusters for 2016 with Shailene Woodley and Theo James both reprising their roles as the love-struck couple fighting for the divergents.
