By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review comes in the form of one of the biggest romantic comedies this year. Earlier this month, Me Before You had its summer release. Me Before You stars two big British stars in the making. The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin is the leading male with Game of Thrones’ star Emilia Clarke his leading lady. I’m not a mad fan of rom-coms, but the intriguing narrative and my admiration of the protagonists lured me in… 28/6/2016 I Saw The Light Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review is of a biographical film centering on the country-singing legend Hank Williams. This movie premiered at the last Toronto Film Festival before having a brief release around the UK. I manage to catch the opinion-polarising biopic at the Phoenix Leicester last week after hearing such differing views. I’m a sucker for biopics but there is a thin line between a great one and bad one. Clearly, judging by articles around the web, I Saw The Light flirts between the two sides. Now it's my turn to get to the bottom of it all... 22/6/2016 A Bigger Splash Re-Review.By Adam Ray Palmer This review is the first of its kind on Cineroom. Thanks to StudioCanal sending me an early copy of A Bigger Splash, I decided to re-analyse our 5th best film of 2015. A Bigger Splash stars four delightful screen stars including Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Matthias Schoenaerts. Luca Guadagnino is in the director’s chair. So before its release on Monday, I wanted to explore what made it a 2015 highlight… 21/6/2016 Money Monster Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review comes from Cannes Film Festival's 2016 opening gala via Leicester’s Phoenix cinema. I’m on hand to give you the low-down. Money Monster stars an array of talent including George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell and Dominic West. Jodie Foster, actress turned director, is the shot caller on this dramatic thriller. Usually, any film Jack O’Connell appears in is pretty decent. So when I sat down for Money Monster, I was hoping this trend continued… 16/6/2016 The Daughter Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review is a bit of a catch up for me personally. I wanted to see The Daughter at the 66th Berlinale this year but unfortunately I had to leave the day before its premiere. Fortunately, the Phoenix in Leicester picked up the film to screen it this week so I’m not too far behind the world. The Daughter has a cast with a mixture of experience but the movie is a debut for the director/writer on the big screen. It makes for an interesting formula… 14/6/2016 Our Kind Of Traitor Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Following on from my interview with the stars of Our Kind Of Traitor last month, I popped along to my local cinema, Phoenix Leicester, to catch this espionage-thriller. ‘OKOT’ has an array of talent in the leading roles including Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, Damian Lewis and Naomie Harris. Susanna White directs this film from John le Carré’s novel. I had an added interest in this film after interviewing the cast. I felt I had to like Our Kind Of Traitor, but ironically, I kind of felt like a traitor… 9/6/2016 The Nice Guys Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review comes in the form of the buddy-cop, comedy film The Nice Guys. The Phoenix cinema was buzzing with excitement as the last few movie-goers took to their seats in the packed screening. The Nice Guys is directed by Shane Black who brings to the world his first film that doesn’t star Robert Downey Jnr. This time, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have the starring credits. This film has been receiving great praise and I personally love buddy-cop movies so this surely was a match made in heaven for me, right? By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review is the film version of the BBC sitcom Bad Education. This film is appropriately called The Bad Education Movie. All the sitcom's regulars are back on board for this big screen reunion including Jack Whitehall, Harry Enfield, Mathew Horne and Sarah Solemani. The 18 episodes prior to this feature film have been well received including an American pilot being commissioned due to its British success, but does the film follow that trend? 2/6/2016 Love & Friendship Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review comes courtesy, and elegantly, of Love & Friendship. Whit Stillman directs this period-comedy-drama which is based on Jane Austen’s novella ‘Lady Susan’. Love & Friendship is helmed by almost an all-British ensemble including Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Fry, and Tom Bennett. Starring opposite Kate is the American starlet Chloë Sevigny. This movie is Stillman’s first foray into period dramas so it’s a pretty big ask with many critics citing this film as a much needed comeback for Beckinsale. I sat down in the Phoenix screening with high hopes for Kate… |
