By Adam Ray Palmer Today’s review arrives from the Marvel universe. Marvel have dominated cinemas for the past five years or so and today I review another big budget product from their roster. Deadpool was released just over a week ago and it has already broken many records. Firstly, there's been the opening weekend box office records and secondly, it’s Ryan Reynolds record third attempt at being a superhero after his failed Deadpool attempt in Wolverine: Origins and his lacklustre Green Lantern. Now in his hatrick appearance as a superhero, is it third time’s a charm? 22/2/2016 Zoolander 2 Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer A famous model in a cult film once said “I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good-looking” – clearly regarding the Zoolander series; there isn’t. Ben Stiller (also on directing duties) and his pal Owen Wilson return as the hapless duo Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald to take on the fashion world once again. It has been the best part of two decades since we last saw the ‘frenemies’ on screen. They return off the back of a cult classic comedy that forced its way into our hearts, but will we let the sequel do the same? By Adam Ray Palmer. Whilst in Berlin this year, I had the chance to catch a short film named Jacked. It has previously been shown at the London Film Festival last October but I missed my chance to catch it. So last Sunday (14th Feb) when I got the call to finally see it and also interview the stars, I was stoked. Thomas Turgoose and Charley Palmer Rothewll are two up-and-coming British actors who helm Rene Pannevis' short. You can read my review below followed by an interview we took part it. Check it out... By Adam Ray Palmer The seventh film that I’ve covered at this year’s Berlinale is the James Schamus feature Indignation which is adapted from the Philip Roth novel. Indignation is helmed by two actors that have both starred in many films but still seem to be called up-and-coming talents; I can only assume it is because they are both youthful. Logan Lerman plays the male lead Marcus Messner and Sarah Gadon takes the leading lady role of Olivia Hutton…. By Adam Ray Palmer I chose this film on a whim to be honest. This is very reminiscent of my experience with Room at the London Film Festival. Black Mass was screening at the same time and I had watched that a month before in Venice - so Room became a random choice. It also became one of the best decisions I had made in a long while of cinema-going. Shepherds and Butchers is a similar tale - I had free time and I love Steve Coogan so I thought ‘why not?’ And now, I am so glad I went… By Adam Ray Palmer I think this is more than likely the funniest film of the festival, if not 2016 so far. The fourth film I am reviewing is War on Everyone. John Michael McDonagh’s picture stars Alexander Skarsgard, Michel Pena, Theo James and Tessa Thompson. This time, no Brendan Gleeson to be seen! John Michael has had two stellar films before War on Everyone and he hopes to add this one to his impressive canon... 13/2/2016 Berlinale'16: Goat Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Cineroom’s third review of the 66th Berlin Festival campaign is the Andrew Neel picture Goat. This film debuted a few weeks back at Sundance receiving mix to positive reviews so I definitely had a good feeling going into the theatre. Ben Schnetzer stars as Nick Jonas supports in this uneasy college movie as Nick distances himself even further away from the Disney lark… By Adam Ray Palmer This film debuted at Sundance last month and now it visits the 66th Berlin Film Festival for another run of press. Midnight Special stars an impressively talented cast including Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst and fresh-faced Jaeden Lieberher. This film began the second day of Berlinale’16 after what was an atmospheric first day – did the buzz continue with Midnight Special? By Adam Ray Palmer The first film and opening night premiere of the 66th Berlinale is the Coen Brothers’ comedy-caper Hail, Caesar! Hail, Caesar! stars a plethora of talent including George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson and Ralph Fiennes – most of whom are in attendance at this year’s festival. Expectations were high and there is a buzz around the festival about this monstrous production, but does it live up to the hype? Let me tell you… 8/2/2016 The Big Short Film Review.By Adam Ray Palmer Cineroom’s review today comes courtesy of Adam McKay’s comedic re-telling of an adaptation based on true events (long-winded I know), The Big Short. This film serves as a departure for comedy director McKay as he is normally associated with belly-laugh hits like Anchorman. 'TBS' has collected many prizes so far and also has numerous Oscar nominations to its name. Does The Big Short deliver or does it make you long for the exit door, I have the answers… |
