There’s been a number of great biopics in the past five years, and I wanted to share with you a handful of movies that I think are must-see life stories. To be firm though, the biopics below are categorised as a true biopic, a film about a person’s life; not an important part of a life. Now that’s said, let’s dive in! With streaming services galore and DVDs becoming a thing of the past, it’s important to make the right decision when adding to your collection.
Each month, we look at what movies deserve a space on your home-cinema shrine… (commonly known as a DVD shelf). Here’s five films that we think have potential to be bought in a shop near you… 5/4/2020 STN April 2020 write up.By Adam Ray Palmer
*This is a monthly newspaper column Last month, Cineroom hit the heights of Scotland (Glasgow Film Festival to be exact) and so I thought I’d share with you two mini reviews of the best films I saw there. Following those, I’ll cover a movie that, as time of writing, will be released later in the year if Coronavirus hasn’t gotten to it! Anyway, let’s talk about a couple of independent movies first, hopefully they’ll go viral… This month is a little different to every other month so far this year as, well, there is no cinema!
For April, and possibly the next couple of months, we will detail what’s coming up on Netflix that you should definitely catch a glimpse of! Here’s five films that we think deserve your attention… A golden oldie has returned to the Cineroom site! Yes, it’s the revisit of the classic ‘Acquire, Hire of Fire’ feature.
How does it work I hear you ask? Well, if you Acquire a film, it means you love it. If you ‘Hire’ a film, it makes you like and would rent again; and of course, if you ‘Fire’ a film, you probably hate it. This is the ‘Lockdown’ edition, and we invited three readers to have their say… Reporting live (well, not quite) to you from Cineroom HQ, we have the latest reaction to the big news stories over the past 30 days.
As always, we will present you with the facts, and then our take on them. We may have guest reporters every now and then – so look out for opportunities! This just in… here’s news story number one… Sometimes, films just stick with you. A lot of the time it’s a specific plot, or a cast member, or even a killer scene that is simply mesmerising.
This feature is inspired by those majestic scenes, but with more of a focus on soundtrack that gives the movie its finishing touch. This is episode number one of this feature, as we know there’s so much more to deliberate… Our title doesn’t lie. In this feature each month, we round up the five best trailers from the past few weeks, so you don’t have to.
The trailers could quite simply be for any movie, all we know is, it’s certainly five of the best! Buckle up, clear your diary… this is the best 10 minutes of your month… 15/3/2020 Ever-evolving cinema: YouTube.By Adam Ray Palmer
For the last decade, I have been a huge fan of one platform in particular, YouTube. Back in 2010 when I made my account, I followed so many YouTubers who were making it big back then, slowly learning what kind of content I enjoyed most. Since then, I have watched the platform grow and grow, becoming something that I believe needs applauding. If you haven’t guessed it from the title, I want to chat about the way YouTube is potentially impacting cinema – in a good way or bad… 15/3/2020 STN March 2020 write up.By Adam Ray Palmer
*This is a monthly newspaper column Well hello March! Nice to meet you! And what does the third month of the year bring? A couple of cinematic bangers normally… and 2020 is no different (well, until COVID-19 rolled into town). This month we have two big films to cover... |
