By Adam Ray Palmer *This is a monthly newspaper column Well hello March! Nice to meet you! And what does the third month of the year bring? A couple of cinematic bangers normally… and 2020 is no different (well, until COVID-19 rolled into town). This month we have two big films to cover... ONWARD A Disney-Pixar original movie is landing in theatres this week, and what a little beauty it is. Set in a suburban fantasy world, two teenage elf brothers (Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) embark on a quest to discover if there is still magic in the world, and to find their past away father. It’s the usual enchantment you would expect from a well-crafted, sentimental Pixar flick. 2017’s Coco is a great example of how well a movie can land with a wide range of audiences when you get the emotion right – Onward will be the 2020 version. In cinemas: 6th March 2020 The Way Back When Ben Affleck turns up in some independent films every now and then, you just know they are going to be decent. The Town in 2010 is an apt example of this, and now ten years on, The Way Back is another great flick. Affleck plays Jack Cunningham who was an HS basketball phenom, a hoop genius who walked away from the game, forfeiting his future. Years later, when he reluctantly accepts a coaching job at his alma mater, he just may get one last shot at redemption. Gavin O’Connor is back in the director’s chair after a successful run of movies including Warrior, Jane Got a Gun and The Accountant. When the movie drops in April, it’s definitely worth being court-side for this one. In cinemas: 24th April 2020 (moved back) To keep up to date, follow as ever @CineroomTweets on Twitter and @CineroomPosts on Facebook. See ya next month!
