A golden oldie has returned to the Cineroom site! Yes, it’s the revisit of the classic ‘Acquire, Hire of Fire’ feature. How does it work I hear you ask? Well, if you Acquire a film, it means you love it. If you ‘Hire’ a film, it makes you like and would rent again; and of course, if you ‘Fire’ a film, you probably hate it. This is the ‘Lockdown’ edition, and we invited three readers to have their say… READER: JOSH WRZYSZCZ Acquire (to help ease lockdown): It has to be The Green Mile. It’s an obvious choice but the movie is a timeless classic. And I think it should be seen by everyone! Hire (to give a go during lockdown): Like everyone should be right now… my ‘Hire’ choice is Law Abiding Citizen. Gerard Butler takes a break from rom-coms and I think it actually worked out pretty well - a great film. Fire (to avoid during lockdown): Controversial choice but Lost in Translation. I thought it was genuinely rubbish and I wouldn’t be interested in seeing it again. It works in this “Lockdown” category as some of the advice we’ve been given seems to have been ‘lost in translation’! READER: CORY BEANGE Acquire (to help ease lockdown): My ‘Acquire’ film is definitely I Love You, Man! This is my MVP of a movie. It’s an absolute belter of a comedy with jokes that will last a lifetime. Paul Rudd is at his very best. (“You got it, Jobin”) Hire (to give a go during lockdown): The Wolf of Wall Street is a slice of how the other half live (the rich part, not the criminal life – although that also works!). And of course, Margot Robbie makes her big film debut 😍. Fire (to avoid during lockdown): WARNING, could be an unpopular opinion… my ‘Fire’ films are any, in fact, all the Star Wars movies. I’m sure haters are gonna hate but I think they’re all absolute trash. I’m not even going to apologise! READER: ASH SMITH Acquire (to help ease lockdown): My choice for ‘Acquire’ is Children of Men, the dystopian and apocalyptic classic. There's a one take shot towards the end of the film (the walk through with the pregnant girl) which is absolutely amazing! A must-see. Hire (to give a go during lockdown): Everyone needs a lockdown comedy, and there’s none better than Shaun of the Dead. I could watch it time after time, and the movie is scarily pretty relevant today! Pegg and Frost are a fantastic duo. Fire (to avoid during lockdown): It has to be The Happening - I could literally never watch again. It all got a bit silly when the actual cause was revealed. It’s certainly one of Wahlberg’s worst films for me. Thank you all for writing you ‘Acquire, Hire of Fire’ options! I am pretty sure some decisions will rile people up!
