Battle of the Sequels returns once again! This time we are focusing on two film series, a decade apart… we are calling it the ‘Tolkien Saga’. This battle royale will pit the three Lord of the Rings films and the three Hobbit movies against each other to see which epic comes out on top! Which movie will be the one true film? When a new movie is upon us all, what’s the first thing we do? Check IMDB for any updates, then probably watch the trailer, and then perhaps even check alternative posters… well we do!
In this feature, we want to shine a light on the artists who create those complementary artworks for the production companies. We have a stellar foursome for you… By Adam Ray Palmer
In this series, I take a look at different forms of media that will either rival cinema, put cinema at risk or even decline itself because of cinema. Last time out, we looked at YouTube, this feature is on DVDs. DVDs are an interesting topic nowadays, with the decline in sales mainly – but also how the collection of them has become an expensive hobby as streaming is now a cheaper alternative, but I’ll get to that. Let’s start with some facts… By Adam Ray Palmer
I’m in two minds here, whether the last five years have flown by or whether they have gone really slow and it feels like a decade. Either way, it’s been a blast. I wanted to take five minutes to just acknowledge this personal milestone with Cineroom and how from the 1st June, we have been alive and well for 1,825 days. I want to share with you all some little titbits of the Cineroom journey… 31/5/2020 STN June 2020 write up.By Adam Ray Palmer
*This is a monthly newspaper column I am back again online this month as the glorious monthly Syston newspaper keeps isolating for the time being. As usual, there is no cinema still so I will be diving onto Netflix to bring you some more recommendations for the month ahead. Hopefully you enjoyed the last column, and this can be your TV guide for June. Reporting live (well, not quite) to you from Cineroom HQ, we have the latest reaction to the big news stories over the past 30 days.
As always, we will present you with the facts, and then our take on them. We may have guest reporters every now and then – so look out for opportunities! This just in… here’s news story number one… When a new movie is upon us all, what’s the first thing we do? Check IMDB for any updates, then probably watch the trailer, and then perhaps even check alternative posters… well we do!

The golden oldie feature continues on Cineroom! Yes, it’s the revisit of the classic ‘Acquire, Hire of Fire’ feature – but this time with me! How does it work I hear you ask? Well, if you Acquire a film, it means you love it. If you ‘Hire’ a film, it makes you like and would rent again; and of course, if you ‘Fire’ a film, you probably hate it. I decided to choose the topic this time, so here is the ‘Taika Waititi’ edition… Our title doesn’t lie. In this feature each month, we round up the five best trailers from the past few weeks, so you don’t have to.
The trailers could quite simply be for any movie, all we know is, it’s certainly five of the best! Buckle up, clear your diary… this is the best 10 minutes of your month… Sometimes, films just stick with you. A lot of the time it’s a specific plot, or a cast member, or even a killer scene that is simply mesmerising.
This feature is inspired by those majestic scenes, but with more of a focus on soundtrack that gives the movie its finishing touch. This is the second episode in this music feature, and there’s another focus on a particular genre… |
