With streaming services galore and DVDs becoming a thing of the past, it’s important to make the right decision when adding to your collection.

Each month, we look at what movies deserve a space on your home-cinema shrine… (commonly known as a DVD shelf).

Here’s five films that we think have potential to be bought in a shop near you…
JOKER
Director: Todd Phillips
Writers: Todd Phillips, Scott Silver
Stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz

Plot:
In Gotham City, mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: the Joker.

Our verdict:
Our film of 2019. It’s a masterpiece backed up with a leading performance to match and a score that will haunt your dreams forever – but in a good way…
MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL
Director: Joachim Rønning
Writers: Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue
Stars: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Harris Dickinson

Plot:
Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies, and dark new forces at play.

Our verdict:
The first one was good wasn’t it? So, you kind of have to watch this one, don’t you?
READY OR NOT

Our verdict
A great, fun horror movie that has bags of talent all over the shop. The writing and performances alone are worth a buy of this DVD.
JUDY
Director: Rupert Goold
Writers: Tom Edge (screenplay by), Peter Quilter (based on the stageplay "End of the Rainbow" by)
Stars: Renée Zellweger, Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock

Plot:
Legendary performer Judy Garland (Renée Zellweger) arrives in London in the winter of 1968 to perform a series of sold-out concerts.

Our verdict:
Nailed on performance by Renée Zellweger that should deliver the Leading Actress award at the Oscars… so buy this quick before they re-package it!
ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Writers: Dave Callaham (screenplay), Rhett Reese (screenplay)
Stars: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone

Plot:

Our verdict:
Great first instalment a decade ago, and this one brings it all right back too. A worthy double DVD buy here.
