On the little screen: May 2020

The next couple of months will be a little different to perhaps any other year as there is, quite simply, no cinema!

In these features, we will detail what’s coming up on Netflix that you should definitely catch a glimpse of!

Here’s five films/TV series that we think deserve your attention…
AFTER LIFE SEASON 2
Creator: Ricky Gervais
Director: Ricky Gervais
Stars: Ricky Gervais, Tom Basden, Kerry Godliman

Plot:
After Tony's wife dies unexpectedly, his nice-guy persona is altered into an impulsive, devil-may-care attitude; taking his old world by storm.

Our verdict:
This series is a thing of beauty. We would be surprised that by the time you read this that you haven’t binge-watched this already. But hey! Just in case you haven’t, here’s your monthly reminder!
HOLLYWOOD
Creators: Ian Brennan, Ryan Murphy
Stars: David Corenswet, Darren Criss, Laura Harrier

Plot:
A group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood try to make it big - no matter the cost.

Our verdict:
Ryan Murphy just creates brilliance. Hollywood is a thrilling rollercoaster of a mini-series with cinematography and production design to die for. Watch this.
THE EDDY
Creator: Jack Thorne
Director(s): Damien Chazelle, Houda Benyamina, Laïla Marrakchi, Alan Poul
Stars: Leïla Bekhti, Yannick Bouanga, Vincent Heneine

Plot:
A French club owner deals with the everyday chaos of running a live music venue in the heart of Paris.

Our verdict:
Jack Thorne on writing duties. Damien Chazelle on directing duties. Well, this is quite simply a recipe for a masterpiece. Clear your diaries on the 8th May.
SPACE FORCE
Creators: Greg Daniels, Steve Carell
Stars: Owen Daniels, Noah Emmerich, John Malkovich

Plot:
The people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services: The Space Force.

Our verdict:
At the end of the month, Greg Daniels (creator of Parks and Recreations and showrunner of The Office US) brings the world a brand-new sitcom with long-time collaborator Steve Carell. With John Malkovich starring, this has ‘hit’ written all over it.
GANGS OF LONDON
Creator(s): Gareth Evans, Matt Flannery
Stars: Joe Cole, Michelle Fairley, Lucian Msamati

Plot:
Tells the story of London being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of its international gangs and the sudden power vacuum that's created when the head of London's most powerful crime family is assassinated.

Our verdict:
Okay, you got us, this isn’t a Netflix offering but we couldn’t not include it. It’s gripping, brutal and just plain carnage – but in a good way!
