Five films to break a $billion (2018 edition).

For the fourth year in a row, Cineroom is back with our prediction for the blockbuster films that will draw the most cash in 2018.

Last year, we got two out of five right, which isn’t the best. However, we were close with the others, but no cigar as someone apparently says.

Let’s just hope at least five films topple that much-wanted number, else this opinion-piece is down and out!
Avengers: Infinity War
The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.
Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Stars: Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Tessa Thompson

This is a dead cert, surely? The Marvel Universe just takes over the box office whenever another movie off the production line comes to fruition. The talent on the bill, the directors, the dedicated fans – it’s all there to succeed.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Han Solo and Chewbacca's adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian.
Director: Ron Howard
Stars: Emilia Clarke, Alden Ehrenreich, Paul Bettany

We don’t need to spend much time on this do we, folks? Have the last two episodes hit the $billion? Yes (may I add in record time too!) Did Rogue One hit the promise land too? Yes, it did. So, let’s face it, Cineroom would be chumps not to include this; so, we have!

Deadpool 2
Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavour – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Director: David Leitch
Stars: Morena Baccarin, Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin

This one is our first curveball potentially. We say this because the first one only achieved $750 million which is quite a bit short of the billion. However, since the first instalment’s release, the hype of the sequel has gone through the roof. In addition, Deadpool kind of has this ‘cult status’ now so we are sure this will appeal to a huge demographic.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
Director: J.A. Bayona
Stars: Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Jeff Goldblum

The first Jurassic World hit the dizzy heights of $1.6 billion back in 2015, and we think this will follow suit. The marketing for this film has been tremendous too. When you add the incredibly talented J.A. Bayona to the directing chair then you’re in for a treat. Also, old favourites like Jeff Goldblum are back so we are going to eat our hats if this doesn’t topple the big bucks.
Venom
Venom’s plot is currently unknown.
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Stars: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate

This is certainly a curveball, but let us explain why we went with Venom over the Fantastic Beasts sequel. There’s three reasons… firstly it’s a superhero movie and they always do well at the box office. Secondly, the Spider-Man loyalists will be all over this too. But the final and crucial reason is the lead. Tom Hardy is primetime in many demographics. Young women love him, mums love him and men want to be him. He will sell this to the masses we think.
