By Adam Ray Palmer A few days ago, I attended the UK Blog Awards 2017 on behalf of Cineroom – I am the editor-in-chief after all! Cineroom were nominated in the ‘Arts and Culture’ category alongside seven other phenomenal blogs that were all vying for our specific gong. This blog serves as a recap to the big night and how it all unfolded... It was 7pm, central London and I had just finished applying the finish touches to my tie. My fiancè and I left the hotel to pop along to the Westminster Park Plaza where the impressive awards show was taking place. We received our wrist bands, had a few gulps of champagne and began to mingle. It’s at this point where I realised just how many talented and creative individuals there were in the room. You had blogs from the fashion industry, the food and drink world and even the automotive industry. Everyone was extremely passionate about what they do and that’s evidence in the quality of their respective blogs. Shortly after greeting the judges of my category, Matthew Cock and Simone Sagi, we had to take to our seats in preparation for the 2017 UK Blog Awards. The two presenters opened the show, Gemma Newton (founder of the blog awards) said her opening piece, followed by Peter Waugh (Head of Digital, Odeon) closing the first half an hour. And then, it was it… the moment… my category was up first… Matthew and Simone joined the stage to announce that Cineroom had been rewarded with the ‘highly commended’ award in the ‘Arts & Culture’ category. Initally, I had that feeling where you don’t want to hear your name before the winner is announced, but when it sinks in, it’s an incredible feeling.
To think 2000 blogs entered this process and Cineroom were down to the last eight in our category, and then received the highly commended award – it’s pretty impressive. This is our first ever attempt at an award and to walk away with this recognition; it’s a huge honour for myself and Cineroom. I am so grateful to the UK Blog Awards and to the judges for choosing Cineroom to receive this award. Most importantly, I am forever grateful for all the support, votes and readership that Cineroom recieves every day. It’s hugely appreciated and humbling to think that thousands of people stop by this website every week. Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey so far, and here’s to a lot more to come!
