What an evening the 2020 BAFTAs was last night. We had the standard award giving, but we also had some tip-top speeches. When it comes to our predictions, we were not far wrong. Predictability definitely wasn’t on the cards when it came to the “thank yous” though. Without further ado, let’s get into it… On a night full of glitz and glamour, it was nearly possible to forget all about the horrendous nominations. But then, out walks Graham Norton and he quickly gets into gear with the lack of diversity. This quickly set the tone, and the winning speeches kept on giving. In particular, two speeches were predominantly memorable. First, Margot Robbie collected the Best Supporting Actor award on behalf of Brad Pitt. His notes quickly began with “Hey Britain, I heard you just became single, welcome to the club. Wishing you the best for the divorce settlement.” But it was his parting comment that made a hilarious stir… Margot quipped “'He's going to name it "Harry" because he's really excited about bringing it back to the States, with him...” – what a man. In addition to Brad, Joaquin Phoenix also produced a powerful 90-sec speech. He correctly pointed out the imbalance of the nominations in the film industry over the last decade. He commented how the industry must do better, including himself and his fellow actors in making sure society is well-represented. Take a look below at his speech… Lastly, Rebel Wilson stole the show with a 3-min routine that is worthy of a Netflix special. Her jokes were on the money, never missing a beat. She read the room, made fun of herself, and delivered an easy, sharable bit of content online – bravo. Check out her speech in its entirety here… BEST FILM
1917 - WINNER The Irishman Joker Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood Parasite Our verdict: We loved 1917, and the recognition it is getting is probably just about fair.
