When a new movie is upon us all, what’s the first thing we do? Check IMDB for any updates, then probably watch the trailer, and then perhaps even check alternative posters… well we do! In this feature, we want to shine a light on the artists who create those complementary artworks for the production companies. We have a stellar foursome for you… Alternative Artist #1: NEEDLE DESIGN First up on our appreciation of artists feature is the super talented Needle Design. Matt is a freelance designer and illustrator who has an extensive amount of movie art on show on his Twitter profile. For today, we are looking at his recent venture as he ramps up publicity for himself in time for the No Time to Die movie release later this year. Matt has decided to re-create all the James Bond movie posters of the past, all 24, putting his own stamp on them. It was hard to choose just one of them to put a focus on, but we love his version of The Man with the Golden Gun poster. Check it out below alongside his details too. Eileen is a designer who hails from Hannover, Germany. In what seems like a short period of time, her rise as a designer has exploded. Eileen boasts over 15k followers on Twitter and has many loyal fans with engagement soaring on every poster. Eileen’s many clients include Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Netflix and FOX too. The Avengers: Endgame poster she designed in April 2019 received a lot of love, including Marvel using it as part of the film’s promotion - the tweet has over 8k retweets alone. To show her talent, we picked her most recent poster of the highly anticipated Denis Villeneuve film Dune released later this year. Check out her masterpiece below. We know his name is Alexey Kot, we know he is an illustrator and we certainly know there is a lot of talent in the man. He is from Minsk, Belarus, finding this out when doing a little digging on his website, and has a brilliant old-fashioned style of poster artwork on show. Kot has an eye for detail that is truly stunning. We could have picked many of his posters to showcase, including his astonishing La La Land artwork that did the rounds on the internet back in 2016/17. We have chosen to put his Rogue One poster on show for you to marvel at. The intricacy that Alexey puts into his work is incredible. Just check it out below. Sam Coyle is a designer and illustrator who often hits our Twitter news feed with his effortless film posters. Of course, they are anything but effortless, but the way Sam crafts them is delicately majestic. Sam has a modest 300 followers on Twitter (deserves more, do your bit!) and creates a fair few bespoke pieces each month. Sam’s style is beautiful, usually with a central focal point and mid-wash colours that give the artwork a traditional look. His Midsommar and Little Women posters in particular are a testament to this. But for us today, his take on The Irishman alternative poster is a thing of beauty. It’s so simple, yet so powerful. See it below. Twitter: @SamCoyleDesign Website: www.samcoyledesign.com Artwork: credit here from Twitter Who is your favourite ‘Alternative Artist’? Let us know below or on our socials! We’d love to check them out and ultimately share their genius with the world!
