Reporting live (well, not quite) to you from Cineroom HQ, we have the latest reaction to the big news stories over the past 30 days. As always, we will present you with the facts, and then our take on them. We may have guest reporters every now and then – so look out for opportunities! This just in… here’s news story number one… BANE MASKS SELL OUT The facts: Wearing a mask may feel like a new aspect of daily life to many, as they continue to be staples of the current global health crisis. But for many movie villains, it’d be just another day in life. Has anyone else seen Darth Vader rolling through the grocery store to get essentials yet? It turns out a lot of people are getting inspired with their face covering choices, and The Dark Knight Rises’ Bane is an especially popular choice. In the past month, there has been a spike in sales for Bane masks in particular on costume sites, with some even being rendered completely sold out. Costume.com spokesman David DeJac has confirmed that the spike led them to be completely out of stock of the Batman villain face covering, but there’s a ton of accompanied Bane costumes untouched. Taken from CinemaBlend Our take: If you need to cover your face during lockdown, there is no better way than looking like a menacing, brickhouse villain is there? You wouldn’t get mugged down an alley way! It’s a novel approach, and one we think is brilliant! NEW COMPANY FROM WRIGHT, CORNISH, PARK & PRIOR The facts: Big moves today from one of the UK's best-known filmmakers and some regular collaborators: Edgar Wright, fellow director Joe Cornish and producers Nira Park and Rachael Prior are forming a new production company called Complete Fiction. The company will be based in London and Los Angeles and has already cracked a deal with Netflix to start developing series for the streaming service. Taken from Empire Our take: Everything that Edgar Wright seems to touch, turns to gold. He, and the trio joining him on the venture, have all had great careers so far and this is just another step to cement their futures in the game. To not only announce the company but they have already agreed a Netflix deal too. This is quite some sure news to celebrate. We look forward to the output! GOSLING GOING BACK TO SPACE The facts: Back in March, word arrived that Ryan Gosling was ready to buckle himself back into a space suit for another story set off world after First Man, this time one based on the new book by The Martian's Andy Weir. We wondered who might end up directing it and now we know: Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Originally titled Project Hail Mary, the story finds a man on a spaceship who discovers he's the only one who can save planet Earth. Taken from Empire Our take: Ryan Gosling, we love. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, we love. So, as a trio going into a production together, we absolutely love. This movie might not be the usual tense space thriller we expect from Gosling, but maybe Lord and Miller will be switching up their styles – either way, we are excited. SPACE JAM IS BACK The facts: Even as movies are shut down and cinemas are closed, there is still the future to look forward to, and among the movies headed our way is the title formerly known as Space Jam 2. Now, thanks to star (and slightly famous basketball-doer) LeBron James, we know that it's called Space Jam: A New Legacy. What he didn't reveal much of is the plot. While the original saw Michael Jordan helping Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes pals take on a bunch of kidnap-happy aliens at basketball to win their freedom. We can assume something similar – a return engagement, another clash? – with Don Cheadle as a villain and Sonequa Martin-Green as James' wife. Taken from Empire Our take: Finally this month, we end on the legendary news from the basketball world. LeBron James will be the star of the new Space Jam sequel and we can’t be more excited! What a time to share the news as Michael Jordan’s epic documentary The Last Dance is taking the world by storm. These marketeers are clever you know! Leave a Reply. |
