Reporting live (well, not quite) to you from Cineroom HQ, we have the latest reaction to the big news stories over the past 30 days. As always, we will present you with the facts, and then our take on them. We may have guest reporters every now and then – so look out for opportunities! This just in… here’s news story number one… J-LAW TEAMS UP WITH NETFLIX The facts: Jennifer Lawrence is the latest A-lister to be signed up! After Scorsese, De Niro, Sandler, Aniston and near enough everyone and their dog has headed over to Netflix to make some big-budget movies, it was only a matter of time before the likes of J-Law did too. New comedy movie, Don’t Look Up, is the feature film to get Lawrence signed on. Adam McKay (writer of Anchorman) is on board to pen the script. The film sees two low-level astronomers on a media tour to warn mankind that an approaching asteroid is poised to wipe out life on Earth. Sounds amusing for sure. Our take: Netflix very rarely get it wrong with their talent signing, and McKay has barely ever put a foot wrong too. Add in Ms. Lawrence to the mix and you certainly have our attention. Our Netflix subscription will stay active for a few more months yet! THE GREEN KNIGHT TAKES OVER The facts: Last week, there was a trailer drop, and it shook the internet. The Green Knight starring Dev Patel and directed by David Lowery took the web by storm. Within hours, it was trending on Twitter and had people hooked. Dev Patel’s appearance seemed to set critics’ minds ablaze, very reminiscent of when Kumail Nanjiani’s epic Eternals transformation was revealed. The film will send Patel’s Sir Gawain on an epic quest to confront the Green Knight where he’ll meet all kinds of other adversaries and creatures along the way. Sign us up! Our take: There’s not much more we can add here, other than we are absolutely stoked about A24’s latest offering. It’s not released for a few months, but we are counting down the days. Alicia Vikander and Joel Edgerton are also on the bill, so that’s two more reasons to queue up. KNIVES OUT GETS A FORKING SEQUEL The facts: Knives Out was a huge success back in November. It received a lot of love at the box office and acclaim in awards season – being nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. And now, Rian Johnson will be back with a sequel! There’s no news on what it'll be about but we can suspect another potential Blanc investigation. Rian hasn’t revealed whether he has even written the script yet, but at least we do know the green light is officially on. Our take: $300 million at the box office. Academy Award nomination. Knives Out 2 was always on the cards, let’s be honest. The film is like Poirot, but like, decent. So, a sequel will be welcomed. RICK MORANIS RETURNS The facts: The legend that is Moranis returns. He’s been away from the big screen, in person at least, for years but now, thanks to a Honey I Shrunk The Kids reboot, Rick is back! He will return as scientist Wayne Szalinski in the new sequel/semi-reboot Shrunk. The new movie, which will star Josh Gad as the grown son of Szalinski's character, finds his spawn charting his own scientific path – and repeating his father's error by shrinking the kids. Johnston is back directing again, and so the magic will hopefully return to our screens too. Our take: Rick Moranis is a legend. Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Little Shop of Horrors and The Flintstones. Tell us three better childhood movies than those… go on… we’ll wait. This is the stuff of dreams!
