TRAILER: American Assassin
Dylan O’Brien returns to the big screen with the first adaptation of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp novels.
The first trailer for American Assassin has arrived with Michael Cuesta in the director's chair. Stephen Schiff's script spins the clock back to Rapp's early days at the CIA. He's discovered after the woman he loves is killed during a terrorist attack. Sworn to destroy the people responsible, he's recruited by the agency, which thinks it can channel his tendencies into becoming a killer for the government.
For that, he'll need some training, and finds a mentor in Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton), a secretive, grizzled but still deadly Cold War veteran. American Assassin is released on 15th September 2017.
FIRST LOOK: Kingsman & the Golden Circle
“There’s an opportunity with Kingsman 2 to make it bigger and bolder and funnier and crazier,” says Matthew Vaughn of The Golden Circle, the follow-up to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.
The sequel has added a variety of A-listers to the cast, thanks to the introduction of the new American secret agent organisation, Statesman. There’s Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges and Pedro Pascal as Agent Whiskey, who teams up with Taron Egerton’s Kingsman, Eggsy, to try to take down Julianne Moore.
As part of two new images from the film, we get a new glimpse at Channing Tatum, a cocky cowboy spy codenamed Agent Tequila. The other image shows Egerton returning as Eggsy, the boy from the streets who is now a full-on spy. Kingsman: The Golden Circle returns to our screens on 22nd September.
Deadpool 2 has a new cast member
Superhero films need to calm down around Josh Brolin, he seems to be being recruit left, right and centre for these movies.
Josh Brolin has bagged himself another huge role for next year. Brolin revealed last week that he will join Ryan Reynolds in the Deadpool sequel as he shared a photo of himself preparing for the job (see below). This of course won’t be his only superhero outing, we will next see Brolin play Thanos in next year's Avengers: Infinity War.
Anyway, Josh will play Cable in Deadpool 2 and confirmed the news in the most epic way using the hashtag #RyanReynoldIsMyBitch – what a gent.
FIRST LOOK: A Star is Born
After a few years in development and a potential new lease on life with Clint Eastwood, the attempt to make yet another version of A Star Is Born is now on the horizon with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga signed on and filming has commenced.
Below you will see the first image from the cutting room. Gaga will be acting in the film under her real name, Stefani Germanotta, despite having used the Gaga alias while acting in TV shows such as American Horror Story.
Cooper and Germanotta were at music festival Coachella in California over the weekend, shooting scenes for the movie, which follows the story of Jackson Maine (Cooper), a country music star who is on the brink of decline when he discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Germanotta). As the two begin a passionate love affair, Jack coaxes Ally into the spotlight, catapulting her to stardom. But as Ally’s career quickly eclipses his own, Jack finds it increasingly hard to handle his fading glory.
A Star Is Born should be out next year.
Fast & Furious 8 smashes the box office
Another Fast & Furious movie, another box office record smash. In 2015, we had the seventh film from the franchise which enjoyed an almighty paycheque after the cinema run came to an end. Partly due to the sad passing of Paul Walker, but also partly due to the seventh film being the best yet.
But now The Fate of the Furious has arrived and has just made $100.1 million at the American box office alone in its first weekend. The film went on to earn more than $432 million elsewhere in just the opening weekend putting a total amount in four days to a staggering $532.4 million (£424.7m) globally. The figure makes it the strongest worldwide debut ever - marginally overtaking the $529m (£421.8m) taken by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
It’s absolutely barmy how much this franchise makes, plus, there’s already plans for a NINTH and TENTH with spin-offs being developed too! Current total for the franchise stands at a colossal $4.4. billion – mammoth.
