On 5th January 2020, the legend that is Ricky Gervais will be hosting the Golden Globes once again.
Alongside his comical jibes, the excitement from a few of the categories makes for a very interesting evening. A Netflix domination? Or will the old school theatres prevail?
Here’s how we think it’s going to go…
BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
THE TWO POPES
We think the gangster epic will just pip the others marginally. It’s been adored across the globe, and now there’s only a golden one left to collect.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
CYNTHIA ERIVO - HARRIET
SCARLETT JOHANSSON - MARRIAGE STORY
SAOIRSE RONAN - LITTLE WOMEN
CHARLIZE THERON - BOMBSHELL
RENÉE ZELLWEGER - JUDY
Renée has already the BIFA to her name for this role, and we don’t see it stopping on 5th January either.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
CHRISTIAN BALE - FORD V FERRARI
ANTONIO BANDERAS - PAIN AND GLORY
ADAM DRIVER - MARRIAGE STORY
JOAQUIN PHOENIX - JOKER
JONATHAN PRYCE - THE TWO POPES
We’re torn here. We think Joaquin and Adam both deserve it, but we think Mr Driver will just nick it by a whisker.
BEST MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY
DOLEMITE IS MY NAME
ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD
Strangely, and we don’t know why, we are going with the outrageous Jojo Rabbit. Maybe because it’s outrageous, the Globes will award it!
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY
ANA DE ARMAS - KNIVES OUT
AWKWAFINA - THE FAREWELL
CATE BLANCHETT - WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE
BEANIE FELDSTEIN - BOOKSMART
EMMA THOMPSON - LATE NIGHT
Eenie meenie miney mo… yep, we are going with Awkwafina. All great performances… so hard to choose.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY
DANIEL CRAIG - KNIVES OUT
ROMAN GRIFFIN DAVIS - JOJO RABBIT
LEONARDO DICAPRIO - ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD
TARON EGERTON - ROCKETMAN
EDDIE MURPHY - DOLEMITE IS MY NAME
This was the toughest to call, we think Eddie Murphy could nab this, but we are standing firm with our Leo choice. Ask us in an hour and it’s probably swapped.
BEST DIRECTOR – MOTION PICTURE
BONG JOON HO - PARASITE
SAM MENDES - 1917
TODD PHILLIPS - JOKER
MARTIN SCORSESE - THE IRISHMAN
QUENTIN TARANTINO - ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD
We think Bong Joon Ho has a shout here, but this is perhaps Scorsese’s year. What a category of names too may we add.
